The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports the health and well-being of students by providing direct nursing services under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or school nurse supervisor. The LPN promotes a safe and healthy school environment and assists in the implementation of individual health care plans, medication administration, first aid, and emergency care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and district policy.
- Assist with screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and documentation.
- Monitor and manage students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures) in collaboration with the RN.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date health records and documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and healthcare providers.
- Assist in the implementation of individualized healthcare and emergency plans.
- Follow proper infection control and hygiene protocols.
- Support the overall health office operations, including inventory management and maintaining confidentiality.
- Participate in professional development and required trainings (e.g., CPR, first aid).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
